The clinical value of probiotics in patients undergoing abdominal surgery, particularly colorectal surgery, remains uncertain despite their well-documented health benefits. This pilot randomized controlled trial aimed to assess the effects of perioperative and postoperative oral administration of two probiotics, Clostridium butyricum CBM588® and Bifidobacterium longum ES1, on immune function, systemic inflammatory response, postoperative infections, and recovery after colorectal surgery.

Currently, Vonoprazan (VPZ) and amoxicillin dual regimen (VA-dual) has not achieved satisfied efficacy as the first-line treatment for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in China. Thus, we aimed to determine the effect of VA-dual plus Saccharomyces boulardii (S. boulardii) on H. pylori eradication rate.
23. Survival outcomes of population-wide colonoscopy screening: reanalysis of the NordICC data.
Colonoscopy as a common screening practice to prevent colorectal cancer lacks strong evidence. NordICC, the first randomized trial of colonoscopy screening, reported no clear clinical benefit for colonoscopy in the intention-to-screen population with suggested benefit in the risk of colorectal incidence and cancer-specific mortality in the per-protocol analyses. However, although the study was designed to perform survival analysis, no survival outcomes were reported since the underlying assumption for hazard ratio was not valid. We aimed to assess whether colonoscopy screening is associated with improved survival outcomes compared with usual care.

Research indicates that prehabilitation is effective in optimizing physical status before surgery, although this method may be considered "aggressive" for frail elderly patients. This study aimed to evaluate whether multimodal prehabilitation decreases postoperative complications and improves functional recovery in frail elderly patients undergoing gastric cancer surgery, in comparison to usual clinical care.

Lugol's chromoendoscopy (LCE)-based detection of esophageal squamous cell neoplasia (ESCN) is limited by low specificity. High-resolution microendoscopy (HRME) was shown to improve specificity and reduce unnecessary biopsies when used by academic endoscopists. In this international randomized controlled trial, we determined the clinical impact, efficiency, and performance of HRME in true global health contexts with a range of providers.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is characterized by hepatic fat accumulation (> 5% of liver tissue) in the absence of alcohol abuse or other chronic liver diseases. NAFLD can progress to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aimed to assess the efficacy of probiotic (lactobacillus) supplementation on NAFLD fibrosis score.

Recurrent Clostridioides difficile infections (CDIs) remain common. While novel microbiome therapeutics gain approval, the efficacy of a full-spectrum, oral microbiome therapeutic is unknown. Better surveillance tests for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are needed. The GALAD score (gender, age, α-fetoprotein [AFP] L3, AFP, and des-γ carboxyprothrombin) has been shown to have excellent sensitivity and specificity for HCC in phase 2 studies. We performed a phase 3 biomarker validation study to compare GALAD with AFP in detecting HCC.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third leading cause of cancer and the second cause of cancer-related deaths in the world. Despite the infrastructure and the availability of organized screening programs, participation in their screening programs is less than the set goals. Considering the importance of informing the society about the prevention and early detection of colorectal cancer symptoms and the positive impact of mobile health technologies, the present research was conducted with the aim of designing and evaluating a colon cancer mobile application.

Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) is standard therapy for nonpedunculated colorectal polyps ≥20 mm. It has been suggested recently that polyp resection without current (cold resection) may be superior to the standard technique using cutting/coagulation current (hot resection) by reducing adverse events (AEs), but evidence from a randomized trial is missing.

High-dose proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy has been recommended to prevent rebleeding of high-risk peptic ulcer (PU) after hemostasis. Vonoprazan has been proven to be noninferior to PPIs in various acid-related diseases. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of vonoprazan vs PPI for preventing high-risk PU rebleeding after hemostasis.
