Universal serial bus (USB) microscopy (capillaroscopy) could provide all rheumatologists with an easy-to-use, low-cost tool to examine the nailfold capillaries to facilitate early diagnosis of SSc. The objectives of this pilot study were to examine the feasibility of acquiring and analysing images using USB microscopy and to compare results to videocapillaroscopy.

Functional IgG autoantibodies against diverse G protein-coupled receptors, i.e. antibodies with agonistic or antagonistic activity at these receptors, are abundant in human serum. Their levels are altered in patients with SSc, and autoantibodies against angiotensin II receptor 1 (ATR1) and endothelin receptor A (ETA) have been suggested to drive SSc by inducing the chemokines CXCL8 and CCL18 in the blood. The objective of our study is to profile the effect of IgG in SSc (SSc-IgG) on the production of soluble mediators in monocytic cells.
6845. Deep phenotyping of synovial molecular signatures by integrative systems analysis in rheumatoid arthritis.
RA encompasses a complex, heterogeneous and dynamic group of diseases arising from molecular and cellular perturbations of synovial tissues. The aim of this study was to decipher this complexity using an integrative systems approach and provide novel insights for designing stratified treatments.

Chronic glucocorticoid use is complicated by osteoporosis and increases the risk of fragility fractures. EULAR guidelines on SLE management recommend reducing chronic glucocorticoid dosage to ≤7.5 mg/day to minimize this risk. We examined the relationship of glucocorticoid dose to fragility fracture risk in a cohort of SLE patients.

Yttrium-90 (90Y) is approved in several countries as a radiosynoviorthesis agent in the intra-articular treatment of synovitis, however, no such radiopharmaceuticals are approved in Canada. The aim of this Health Canada-approved study was to examine the safety and efficacy of 90Y synovectomy among patients with refractory synovitis.

Calcitonin gene-related peptide alpha (αCGRP) represents an immunomodulatory neuropeptide implicated in pain perception. αCGRP also functions as a critical regulator of bone formation and is overexpressed in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In the present study, we investigated the role of αCGRP in experimental RA regarding joint inflammation and bone remodelling.
