Treatment with CTLA-4Ig blocks T-cell activation and is clinically effective in RA. However, it is unknown if specific CD4+ T-cell subsets in blood at baseline predict remission after CTLA-4Ig, or other biological treatments with different modes of action, and how treatment affects CD4+ T cells in patients with untreated early RA (eRA).

Combining of genomic data of different pathologies as a single phenotype has emerged as a useful strategy to identify genetic risk loci shared among immune-mediated diseases. Our study aimed to increase our knowledge of the genetic contribution to Kawasaki disease (KD) and IgA vasculitis (IgAV) by performing the first comprehensive large-scale analysis on the genetic overlap between them.

OA is a complex genetic disease with different risk factors contributing to its development. One of the genes, TNFRSF11B, previously identified with gain-of-function mutation in a family with early-onset OA with chondrocalcinosis, is among the highest upregulated genes in lesioned OA cartilage (RAAK-study). Here, we determined the role of TNFRSF11B overexpression in development of OA.

We recently recorded a high prevalence of inclusion body myositis (IBM) in patients with Sjögren's syndrome (SS). Whether myositis patients with SS differ from myositis patients without SS in terms of the characteristics of the myositis is currently unknown. Anti-cytosolic 5'-nucleotidase 1 A (cN1A) has recently been proposed as a biomarker for IBM but is also frequent in SS. Whether anti-cN1A is independently associated with IBM is still an open question. We aimed to assess the significance of SS and anti-cN1A in myositis patients.

The pro-inflammatory activities of the calgranulins and HMGB1 can be counteracted by sRAGE, the soluble form of their shared receptor. To understand the role of these molecules in AAV and their potential as therapeutic targets we have studied (i) the relationship between these DAMPS and disease activity; (ii) the expression of RAGE and sRAGE in biopsy tissue and peripheral blood; and (iii) the effect of these molecules on ANCA-mediated cytokine production.
