Obesity epidemic is one of the greatest challenges in public health in modern societies. This study aimed to address the main gap by reviewing the effectiveness of nutritional policy measures implemented globally by governments to reduce obesity prevalence among adults.

Evidence on workplace bullying and harassment (WBH) in the UK has not used probability-sample surveys with robust mental health assessments. This study aimed to profile the prevalence and nature of WBH in England, identify inequalities in WBH exposure, and quantify adjusted associations with mental health.

India is the world's most populous country, and overseas Indians the world's largest diaspora. Many of the more than 1·4 million UK-based Indians will be providing care at a distance for parents living in India. Globalisation has contributed to a shift in India from traditional joint family systems to more nuclear structures. We investigated how commonly Indian parents consider and use long-term care facilities and attitudes to their use.

Trauma is an experience (physical or emotional) that is life-threatening, harmful, or out of the ordinary and has lasting effects on mental health and wellbeing. Much of the information about trauma within homeless populations focuses on events in childhood. Using coproduction principles, we aimed to synthesise qualitative evidence exploring the impact of trauma during adulthood homelessness on mental health, including substance use.

Breast cancer screening attendance in the UK has fallen, and London has the lowest uptake nationally. This study tested the impact of a behavioural science-informed reminder SMS, and animated video intervention on screening uptake.

Household food insecurity (HHFI) has detrimental impact on child health outcomes. The primary aim of this work was to describe the mechanisms, defined as statistically quantified processes or systems, that explain the association between HHFI and poor child health outcomes. The secondary aim was to identify which child health outcomes were significantly associated with HHFI.

Human and environmental health are inseparable and interdependent. Doughnut Economics is a conceptual framework combining the Sustainable Development Goals with Planetary Boundaries, thereby simultaneously considering human and planetary wellbeing. The vision is to "meet the needs of all people within the means of the living planet, for the benefit of both current and future generations". Glasgow City Council has committed to becoming a Green Wellbeing Economy, with a socially just transition to Net Zero by 2030. Through our City-University partnership, we are exploring whether Doughnut Economics can drive transformative action towards a sustainable, healthy, and equitable future.

In May 2018, the Scottish Government set a minimum unit price (MUP) of £0·50 per unit of alcohol sold in Scotland to reduce alcohol-related health harms. We synthesised evidence to establish the effects of MUP on alcohol-related health and social harms, at population level and within specific societal groups.

Dementia is a leading, global public health challenge. Recent evidence supporting a decrease in age-specific incidence of dementia in high-income countries (HICs) suggests that risk reduction is possible through improved life-course public health. Despite this, efforts to date have been heavily focused on individual-level approaches, which are unlikely to significantly reduce dementia prevalence or inequalities in dementia. In order to inform policy, we identified the population-level interventions for dementia risk reduction with the strongest evidence base.

Muslim women use cancer screening less often than the general female population, which puts them at risk of delayed detection. We used an asset-based approach to co-design a faith-based intervention to increase uptake of breast, colorectal, and cervical screening in Scottish Muslim women.

Stigma and discrimination are widely recognised as core social determinants of health. There is a gap in understanding how to intervene at societal and systems level to address stigma. This study aims to theorise how particular care and support systems shape experiences of stigma as it relates to homelessness, and to then develop systems-level interventions.

Homeless health care is often characterised by physical health, mental health, and substance use problems, resulting in high use of emergency care, poor outcomes, and extreme social inequities. We assessed health needs as prevention opportunities for hospitalised people experiencing homelessness (PEH) in England.

Frailty is a condition resulting from a decline in physiological reserves caused by an accumulation of several deficits, which progressively impairs the ability to recover from health adverse events. Following a promising feasibility study, the HomeHealth trial assessed a holistic tailored intervention for older adults with mild frailty to promote independence in their own homes, compared with usual care. We aimed to understand how goal setting worked among older people with mild frailty.

Endogenous Cushing's syndrome results from excess glucocorticoid secretion, which leads to a myriad of clinical manifestations, comorbidities, and increased mortality despite treatment. Molecular mechanisms and genetic alterations associated with different causes of Cushing's syndrome have been described in the last decade. Imaging modalities and biochemical testing have evolved; however, both the diagnosis and management of Cushing's syndrome remain challenging. Surgery is the preferred treatment for all causes, but medical therapy has markedly advanced, with new drug options becoming available. Nevertheless, several comorbidities remain even after patient remission, which can affect quality of life. Accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment are essential for mitigating chronic complications of excess glucocorticoids and improving patient quality of life. In this Seminar, we aim to update several important aspects of diagnosis, complications, and treatment of endogenous Cushing's syndrome of all causes.
